STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 24th October 2025
Dear Families
We have had a very successful half term filled with lots of exciting learning opportunities. This week we have had our first 'Learn Through Week' of the academic year. This is a week in school where we dedicate learning to a specific theme across school and this week it has been about charities.
Children in Year 3 and 4 have been learning about homelessness and as part of this work the children are collecting items to support Sleepsafe. Please can I ask you to read the following from Miss Spark, Mr Myers and Miss Aitken.
This week is a Learn Through Week across school focusing on charities. In LKS2, we are learning all about charities and the issue of homelessness. We really want to make a difference for this issue by supporting a local charity, Sleepsafe.
Sleepsafe provide temporary accommodation in Selby for anyone facing a night on the street. They provide free access to 6 bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen and toilet facilities. They make use of donations of food, clothing and toiletries and have volunteers who help day to day, supporting important life skills for residents. After 8 weeks, the residents will move to more permanent accommodation.
Over this week, children will be campaigning for donations of warm clothing, tinned food and toiletries, for both adults and children, to be made to school by Friday 7th November.
We would be incredibly grateful for any donations you may be able to provide, including good quality second hand clothing, and we ask that there be a maximum of 5 items per family. We will have a representative from Sleepsafe coming to collect the donations.
Thank you for your continued support!
I would also like to share about an exciting event for the children to take part in next week while they are off. As you may know, we have links with Osborne House and have, over the years, visited the residents of Osborne House. Once again the children are invited to go and visit next week to celebrate Halloween. Please see the information below.
I hope you have a wonderful half term and the children enjoy the Autumn sunshine!
Kind regards
Mrs Winter

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips
it has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.
Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:
“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”
Please can we ask that your child does not ride their bikes or scooters on the school grounds.
Children are not play on the wooden trim trail before and after school.
Children are not play football on the field and playground before or after school.
As the school continues to grow the playground is getting busier and busier and it is important we keep everyone safe.
We would also like to encourage parents and children to not cross roads where visibility is reduced to ensure that roads are clear before crossing.

What's Cooking?
I have continued to work with Team Derwent this week. We have been making Leek and Potato Soup. The children have learnt about the origins of the potato and had the opportunity to use various skills including peeling, chopping and slicing. They have also learnt about seasonality and explored how potatoes and leeks grow.
The children have been doing lots of work with the charity Sleepsafe this week. Sleepsafe very kindly did an assembly for the children where they learnt a lot about the charity and gained a better understanding of what it is they do. It was a lovely experience for the children to be able to gift some of their soup to Sleepsafe whilst they were here.
Earlier in the year, some children in Team Humber made some scones and gifted them Sleepsafe. We were delighted to receive a thank you letter from The House of Commons in recognition of all the support the children give. Well done!
Well done to all the children who have been to Cook School this week, you have all been amazing and have made Mrs Soper very proud.
I do hope you all have a lovely week off and I look forward to working with Team Dove when we return in November.
Mrs Soper
Cook School Lead
Thank you!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our first event of the year — yesterday’s Halloween Disco! We hope you all had a fantastic time. An extra special thank you goes to our wonderful volunteers — these events simply wouldn’t be possible without your support.
Save the Date
Our AGM will take place on Wednesday 5th November at 2pm, and we’d love to see as many of you there as possible.
Why It Matters
All the money we raise goes directly to the school, helping to support every area of school life. The more we raise, the more we can provide for our children — every little bit truly makes a difference.
Easy Fundraising
You may have spotted our new banner on the school fence! Easy Fundraising is a simple and free way to help us raise money while you shop online. To find out more, visit: www.easyfundraising.org.uk
Looking Ahead
We’ve got lots of exciting events planned for the next half term and in the run-up to Christmas. If you’re able to lend a hand, we’d be incredibly grateful — every bit of help makes these events even more special for our children.
Please can we make you aware that we have spare tickets available for sale for the Young Voices show.
