Good afternoon,
This week, KS1 have loved their first Learn Through Week of the year, thinking all about charities! Our chosen charity has been The Wonky Donkey Sanctuary. The children have enjoyed thinking about ways that they could raise money to support the charity, created posters and then finally baked and decorated buns to sell to the Staynor Hall community.
After half term, we will be thinking about our local community and where we are in the UK. This will then be linked learning about human and physical features, which we are hoping will involve a walk around the local area.
Changing books:
To support with reading in school we are changing the day we are sending new books home. Please can book bags and reading records be sent to school on THURSDAYS.
REMINDERS:
For Autmn 2, our PE days will be Monday and FRIDAY. KS1 are very lucky after the half term break to be having one of their lessons with the Beyond the Physical coaches that come into school on a Friday.
In Maths, Year 1 are focusing on recognising place value within numbers and continuing to develop their verbal reasoning skills around number.
In Year 2 , we are continuing to work on addition and subtraction strategies alongside developing our mental calculations and how we can use this knowledge to support written calculations.
In Writing, we will be orally reheasing and learning stories to support our writing, with a focus on handwriting and sentence construction.
HOMEWORK:
Your children will bring home their reading books on Thursday. We ask that you read with your child 3x a week and write in their reading records each time you read.
The children who have read 3x, will be giving a raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win a prize.
We know reading is essential for your child/ren and we thank your support with this.
Any questions, please come and ask us.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support over this half term and hope that you have a wonderful break. The children have settled brilliantly into their new teams and we look forward to seeing them back in school on Monday 3rd November.
