Good afternoon,
We can’t believe we are already at the Easter holidays! We had another lovely week in LKS2 in the countdown to the Easter break. In English we wrote the final paragraph of our gladiator disaster story - our main character Falto took up battle with our intimidating gladiator! The children have really enjoyed writing this story and wrote some great final paragraphs with some carefully chosen language and using conjunctions to extend their ideas. In Maths we finished our formal written method unit for addition and subtraction by using column subtraction with exchanging in some trickier scenarios such as exchanging through a zero and where there are multiple exchanges in the columns. The children have enjoyed this strategy and it is a strategy they will rely on for their challenge papers so it is a great one to keep practising! In Science we continued with our forces and magnets unit and tested and sorted some items to see if they were magnetic or not.
Coming up next week:
Creative curriculum: Next week we will be looking at the question ‘Did we just roll over?’. For this question we will be looking at some warrior queens from Britain and their different responses to the Romans- Cartimandua, a local queen and the well-known Boudicca from the Iceni tribe.
English: We will continue writing disaster stories but will extend this to writing 2 paragraphs of a story while thinking about using a variety of sentence openers.
Maths: We will begin our fractions unit, looking at parts and wholes and begin looking at unit fractions.
PE Year 3: Children need to come dressed in PE kit on Wednesday & Friday. Children need to wear a pair of plain black or navy blue jogging bottoms or shorts, a plain white t-shirt and a plain black or navy blue hoodie. Children need to wear suitable shoes for PE (trainers or plimsolls).
PE Year 4: We go swimming on Wednesday. Children need to come to school in their uniform and bring their swimming kit in a bag. Children need to come dressed in PE kit on Friday.
PSHE Year 3: To identify when something feels safe and unsafe.
PSHE Year 4: To understand the facts about smoking and its effects on health, and also some of the reasons some people start to smoke.
Homework:
We appreciate how hard the children work during the term and we really want them to enjoy their time at home with family and friends and to get the chance to properly rest and recharge so there will be no homework set. Homework will be set again from 11th April.
