Good afternoon,
It has been a wonderfully busy and creative time in KS1, with lots of exciting learning taking place across the curriculum.
In Design and Technology, the children have been developing their sewing skills. They began by learning how to safely use needles and thread, practising simple stitches before moving on to their final project. With great care and perseverance, the children designed and created their very own bags. They showed fantastic focus and resilience throughout this process, and were incredibly proud of their finished products!
In English, our focus has been on storytelling. The children have been learning about a story mountain, helping them to understand the structure of a story, including the beginning, build-up, problem, resolution and ending. We have been exploring the story Farmer Duck, and the children have particularly enjoyed learning actions to help them retell the story. This has supported their confidence, expression and understanding, and it has been wonderful to see them enthusiastically performing and sharing the story with others.
We have also enjoyed some special seasonal celebrations. The Easter Bonnet Parade was a highlight, with children proudly showing off their creative and colourful designs. It was lovely to see so much effort and imagination on display. In addition, the children had great fun taking part in an Easter egg hunt, working together and enjoying the excitement of the activity.
Reminders next week -

Changing books:
To support with reading in school we are changing the day we are sending new books home. Please can book bags and reading records be sent to school on THURSDAYS.
REMINDERS:
This half term, our PE days will be Monday and Friday.
HOMEWORK:
Your children will bring home their reading books on Thursday. We ask that you read with your child 3x a week and write in their reading records each time you read.
The children who have read 3x, will be giving a raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win a prize.
We know reading is essential for your child/ren and we thank your support with this.
Every Friday, Year 1 will now be bringing home a phonics home learning sheet looking at sounds that we have covered throughout the week. Any extra practise would really support your children's reading journey.
Below is a list of KS1 common exceptions words. These are a list of words that the children need to be able to read and write - although this isn't homework as such, it may be useful to practice these at home. Across Key Stage 1 we are working really hard to improve spelling and handwriting so any support with this at home would be greatly appreciated.
Any questions, please come and ask us.
Thank you for your continued support,
Team KS1
