STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER

Dear Families
We have had a lovely start back to the summer term, the children have come back with a renewed determination and are consistently demonstrating our school values, I have seen so many wonderful acts of care and compassion from our children this week in the way they have supported one another both in learning and play.
The children in Key Stage One have had a wonderful day at the farm today, with a particular highlight being the tractor ride! The children have also had so much fun feeding and stroking the animals and climbing on the hay bales! What a brilliant way to start the the Summer Term.
Next week I will be sharing some key dates for the Summer Term, I hope that by having notice of these events it will help with planning for you as families.
Warm wishes
Mrs Winter

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips
It has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.
Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:
“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”
We are an allergy aware school.
Nuts are prohibited on school site, and should not be put in children's packed lunches or brought in as a playtime snack.
Including school trips and events.
Thank you
As we enter the Summer Term, we would like to remind families about the option to apply for Free School Meals.
If you believe your child may be eligible, please collect a Free School Meals application form from the School Office and return it to us as soon as possible.
You can apply for Free School Meals if your child attends our school from Tiny Steps all the way through to Year 6.
If you would like support completing the form, please do not hesitate to contact the School Office.
New Clothes Recycling Bin – Support Our School!
We’re excited to share that a new clothes recycling bin has been installed on the school grounds! This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, reduce waste, and support the school at the same time.
We encourage families to donate any unwanted clothing and shoes. Every item collected helps to raise valuable funds that go directly back into supporting school activities, resources, and opportunities for our children.
By using the recycling bin, you’re not only helping the environment by giving items a second life, but also contributing to the continued growth and success of our school.
Thank you for your ongoing support — every bag makes a difference!
What's Cooking?
This week I have been working with Team Humber. We have been making fruit kebabs and banana and strawberry smoothies. For the kebabs, the children had to chop their fruit in half, quarters and eighths to ensure they had enough. For the smoothies, the children had to calculate the ingredients they would need for their smoothies by using a base recipe that they had to convert to ensure they had enough ingredients. This involved a lot of work using fractions and calculating the percentage decrease/increase.
All the children worked exceptionally hard during their Cook School visit and demonstrated lots of determination. They all enjoyed their kebabs/smoothies and I really look forward to working with them all again soon when we take our learning to Greece!
Next week I will continue to work with KS1 (Team Ouse) to complete the making of the healthy sandwiches.
