Good afternoon,
We have had another busy week in LKS2, where the children continue to work hard on their learning and celebrate their successes. In Writing we wrote the second paragraph of our exciting gladiator disaster narrative where we continued to think about our effective vocabulary choices and this week we had a grammar focus around using inverted commas to correctly punctuate speech in a story. This grammar focus really helps to add more detail to our narratives as it allows the reader to understand the characters feelings in a deeper way. In Guided Reading we read the next section of our book ‘Escape from Pompeii’ and practiced our prediction skills. It is really nice to read a disaster story at the same time as writing one to think about the language choices made by an author and even magpie some of them! In History we looked at how the romans ended up in Britain as they had two failed invasion attempts in 55 BC and 54 BC before changing tactics and successfully invading in 43 AD. We practiced using 4 figure grid references to locate the 3 invasion sites in 43 AD.
Coming up next week:
Creative curriculum: Next week we will be looking at the question ‘What did the Romans believe?’ and looking at religious beliefs at this time in Britain.
English: We will continue writing disaster stories by finishing our gladiator story with a final paragraph and focusing on an effective use of conjunctions, including varying the position of subordinate clauses to have the best impact on our reader.
Maths: We will be practicing column subtraction including where you have to exchange through and zero and multiple exchanges and using this knowledge to solve challenge style problems.
