WEEKLY UPDATE
Good afternoon,
This week we have learnt about how the Lunar New Year is celebrated by families around the world. Thank you to all of the parents who attended open doors this afternoon. The children loved sharing their learning with you!
This is what we will be looking at next week in English and Maths.
English - We will be returning to the land of traditional tales. We use our knowledge of the Jack and the Beanstalk story to identify the problem and solution in the Little Red Riding Hood story. This will also give us the opportunity to visit a different story setting.
Maths - We will be looking at the number 8 and exploring how this is composed. We will then use our knowledge of other numbers and part whole models to explore how numbers can be halved.
PE sessions will happen on a Monday every week. The children can come in PE kits on this day. If your child wears earrings, please make sure they remove these or cover them with plasters on PE days.
The children will also continue to do daily phonics lessons and we will be introducing our Phase 3 digraphs: or and ur. We will also consolidate the digraphs we learnt last week: ur, ow and oi. Team Swale and Nidd are so excited to get started learning our new phonemes.
Your child will be bringing home today a new guided reading book as well as a new picture book from our class library. Their guided reading book will reflect our recent phonics assessments. We encourage you to read this book at least 3 times a week at home and please record this in your child's reading record. The children who have read 3 times at home are placed into a raffle to win a prize. Please see below the parent overview for our Spring 1 topic.
Please keep sharing your photographs on Tapestry. We enjoy having the time after our snuggle story in the afternoon to share these as a class.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
