WEEKLY UPDATE
Dear Parents/Carers,
We’ve had a fantastic week in Reception! It’s wonderful to see the children settled in their new classes and routines – they are growing in confidence every day.
This week, the children have really enjoyed their guided reading sessions. New reading books will be sent home every Friday. We’d like to take this opportunity to highlight just how important it is to read regularly at home. Reading with your child at least three times a week makes a big difference to their progress and helps build a strong foundation for lifelong reading skills.
Please record your child’s reading by indicating how many times you have read with them each week. Use one box per week in the comments section of the reading diary. To encourage regular reading, every child who reads three times a week will be added to our Reading Wheel and have the chance to win a prize – a fun way to celebrate their efforts and achievements!
Phonics Meeting
We will be holding a phonics meeting on Thursday 9th October 2.45 -3.15pm for parents and carers. This session will help you support your child with their early reading skills. We would love to see you there!
Reminders:
Please ensure your child brings their book bag to school every day so they can take part in reading activities and bring home their books
PE is every Wednesday – please send your child to school in their PE kit on this day.
Please don't forget to keep checking Tapestry as well as the newsletter.
We’ve attached an overview of the graphemes (letters) and phonemes (sounds) we’ll be focusing on from Monday 29th September. You can also find a copy of the home learning uploaded to your child’s Tapestry account every week.
If you haven’t already, we highly recommend checking out the “For Parents” section on the Little Wandle website. This area is full of helpful resources, including videos and downloadable guides that will help you feel confident in supporting your child’s reading at home. Some resources to explore include:
Termly Guides: These show how sounds are taught throughout the year (e.g., Reception Autumn 1, Autumn 2, etc.).
Videos: Find clear explanations of how phonics lessons are delivered, and tips on how to teach blending and tricky words.
We hope these resources will be valuable to you as you support your child’s learning journey.
Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for all your continued support.
Warm regards,
Team Reception
