The next steps in East Union's plan to maintain and expand Computer Science instruction will be to ensure that there is alignment between the teaching and learning being done in the elementary grades with that which is being planned for the middle and high school offerings. This goal has already been initiated by Green Hills Area Education Agency, in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Education and Iowa's other eight Area Education Agencies. Professional development is essential for success in any educational initiative. In September of 2021, a team of K-12 teachers and administrators attended a SCRIPT workshop, the purpose of which was to being planning for TK-12 Computer Science programming. The "East Union District Planning Document" describes existing programming and documents plans for refinement and expansion. Time and funding will be necessary to fully implement TK-12 Computer Science instruction. Plans for sustainability may be found by visiting the "Sustainability" link in this blueprint: Sustainability. There will also be time set aside during scheduled 2022-2023 Professional Development days for further staff training, and with additional funding, staff members may be able to continue to attend workshops, conferences, site visits, and maintain memberships in professional organizations devoted to the development of high quality Computer Science programming in public schools.
