The success of any initiative requires continuous evaluation and refinement, with consideration of the project's goals. East Union's Computer Science is Elementary project is monitored and evaluated by revisiting the Program Design, which may be found in the Leadership: Program Vision and Design page of this Blueprint. For each component of the Program Design, evidence for attainment of the project's goals has been identified. There are some goals that are still "work in progress."

Basic Instructional Design
Daily Computer Science instruction has been established for all fourth and fifth grade students, including coding, digital citizenship, and keyboarding.
Weekly Computer Science instruction has been expanded for all transitional kindergarten through third grade students, including coding and digital citizenship.
Student data and teacher observation data reflects the project’s impact on literacy, math, content area knowledge, and engagement.
Computer Science instruction is built into the school wide schedule so that all students receive daily or weekly instruction from a highly qualified teacher. Detailed information is available by visiting the General Resources page of this Blueprint.
Stand alone and integrated lessons have been created for each grade level, and they will be continuously refined as Computer Science instruction evolves in the coming years. New resources will be sought to sustain students' engagement and enhance academic growth.
The success of the Basic Instructional Design must also be evidenced by data associated with the original goals and components of the project. Student achievement and growth data using school wide assessments, survey data that reflects student engagement, and teacher observation data will be analyzed to determine areas of the program's strength, and areas in need of refinement.
Professional Development
In-house professional development is available for all East Union Elementary teachers, facilitated by the Computer Science Team.
External professional development is offered to all East Union Elementary teachers, available on an optional basis.
The embedded schedule provides evidence that all East Union Elementary certified teachers have attended professional development opportunities that have been made available during contracted PD days. Ten teachers have also taken advantage of external offerings, such as Drake University's "Computer Science in the Elementary Classroom." On April 11 and 12, 2022, all teachers experienced embedded PD with Brian Aspinall, a renowned Computer Science consultant.
In the future, application of learning may be evidenced through teacher observation data. Teachers may also be invited to share their learning during contracted PD days in collaboration with the CS Team.
Planning and Curriculum Development
Quarterly Computer Science Team meetings are scheduled so that planning and curriculum selection can take place.
The Computer Science teacher will continue to develop, refine, and map curricular units using the Rubicon Atlas mapping site.
All teachers have the opportunity to develop integrated plans or access and apply lessons created and mapped by the Computer Science teacher.
Computer Science Team Meeting Agendas and Minutes: 2019 - Present
CSE Team Agendas and Minutes provide evidence that quarterly meetings involve planning and curricular development. The Grade Level Resources and Curriculum and Materials pages of this Blueprint contain information that is accessible to all teachers to use when planning for integrated CS instruction.
Resources
A database of resources with a lending library has been created, and will be continuously updated by the Computer Science Team.
Sustainability funding will be sought so that devices and other materials may be updated, and coding site licenses may be maintained.
Teachers of all grade levels will have access to a database of Computer Science Resources; this document has been created and will be maintained and updated by the Computer Science Team. Plans are being made for an in-house lending library of devices and other materials, which will be maintained by the CS Teacher Assistant / Library Paraeducator. Green Hills Area Education Agency offers a wealth of CS resources through its Media Lending Library.
Partners and Community Involvement
A database of community partners will be maintained and updated annually. Community partners may serve as guest speakers, hosts for in-person or virtual field trips, or mentors in career and college readiness.
Bi-annual Family Learning Events will be facilitated by the Computer Science Team. Collaborators may include community partners or school-based interest groups.
The East Union Elementary Computer Science Team has discovered over 70 potential community partners who are interested in supporting the CSE project. 2022 brings hope for a return to the pre-COVID optimism and excitement surrounding the creation of a Model Computer Science School! "Partners and Community Involvement" are associated with Family Events and great publicity for East Union...the school of choice in our region!
Sustainability funding will be sought so that devices and other materials may be updated, and coding site licenses may be maintained.
East Union Computer Science Team members will be responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Computer Science is Elementary project. Though the process is ongoing, a summative analysis of the program's areas of success and refinement will occur during the CSE Team's May meeting. This rubric may be used to assess the attainment of or progress toward project goals.
