What do you call something that is oozy, gloopy, stretchy, and all the rage?
Slime is a gooey, soft substance that we can make and play with. It is very popular! There is Fluffy slime, crackly slime, butter slime, bubblegum slime (but you can’t eat it!), and so much more!
Why is slime so popular?
Did you know Karima Garcia has made slime more popular on YouTube? She has more than six million subscribers on her channel! She has been on the Ellen Show, the news, and Nickelodeon. Karina also wrote a book about slime. She even has her own line of slime kits that she sells in big stores.
You can use slime for stress relief and squeeze your stress away! It’s also fun on rainy days. You can poke it, stretch it, and put it into big bubbles. But don’t let it get on your carpets…
Slime bans!
At school, a lot of kids play with it when they are not supposed to, like in class and during recess. Slime was even banned from recess for fourth graders at Willow Lane! Kids were getting slime all over their hands, their clothing, and the tables on the playground.
At home a lot of kids are also banned from playing with slime. Parents are concerned about slime getting on staircases, railings, walls, and carpet. (I got slime all over my bedroom carpet and it’s basically there forever). Slime is very tempting to play with, but it is super messy. So, if you are going to play with slime, do it somewhere where it is ok to make a mess (like outside).
How to make basic slime
You will need:
-Tide
-Elmer's glue (It has to be Elmer’s school glue or it will not work.)
-Glitter and food dye are optional
-Bowl
-Spoon
First, you need to pour in your Elmers glue, then add in the food dye. Mix until all of the color is infused with the Elmer's glue. Next, you add in tide a little bit at a time.
Now it is time for the messy part. You start kneading the slime with your bare hands! Once your slime is less sticky and at the right consistency you can start playing with it.
