Willow Lane Newspaper Club Has Changed

The newspaper will always be open to submissions from any student of the Willow Lane community; any student can write an article or even produce a video that may be included on this Willow Lane News Update website. This is NOT different. The actual club will meet twice a month, on Monday afternoons. That is NOT different. Here's what IS different: Only one of the Monday meetings will be used to work on newspaper publications. The other will consist of skill-building. Mr. Weimann and Miss Weller, plus guests, will be sharing lessons on picture-taking, photo-editing, videography, video-editing, movie-making, movie-publication, writing, drawing, etc. Here is another change: Each member will be required to have an adult "Sponsor". This sponsor could be a teacher, parent, school staff member (other than teacher), babysitter, daycare worker, neighbor, relative, or adult friend of the family. Of course that list is not exhaustive, meaning any adult approved by parents could be a sponsor. And, now for something A LITTLE different: The school newspaper club will be using the Google Classroom regularly. Last year, we dabbled with it, trying it out. This year, the online, virtual classroom will be the formal form of communication between leaders (Mr. Weimann and Miss Weller) and members (students with sponsors). Newspaper club leaders will post new assignments and information every Friday morning. It will be the club members' duty to login and check out the Google Classroom each and every Friday to see what is happening. Things will be added throughout the week, as well, and it would behoove members to check in regularly. The "Friday Checkin" is mandatory.

Adult Sponsors: Thank you for taking the time to explore this opportunity. We hope you find it exciting, beneficial, and worth it. Your job is to help students with their writing. You do not write the article for them or pull teeth for paragraphs. You discuss ideas, steer direction, and edit work. You will be invited to access the Google classroom to see what is happening in the club, and you will be invited to visit the meetings on Mondays.
