School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential. - National Association of School Nurses , 2017
As an advocate for the individual student, the school nurse provides skills and education that encourage problem solving, effective communication, and collaboration with others. We will promote the concept of self-management which enables students to manage their condition and to make life decisions well beyond the classroom. The CSN will advocate for safety by participating in the development of school safety plans to address bullying, school violence, and the full range of emergency incidents that may occur at school. The health room will perform the state mandated screenings and make the necessary referrals, and follow-up on their progress. Following the PA Nurse Practice Act and EPSD policies and protocols, we assess injuries, administer medication and perform medical treatment. Our goal is to provide excellency in health care, keep students in school and empower them to perform to their optimal academic ability.
I have worked in the East Penn School District as a Certified School Nurse since 2024. Prior to EPSD, I worked at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nurse for 12 years.
I grew up in Quakertown and graduated from the University of Delaware in 2002 earning my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. In 2024 I received my certificate in school nursing from Cedar Crest College.
Outside of school I keep active teaching fitness classes at Barre3 Lehigh Valley. I am a proud mom of a girl Paige, and two boys, William and Grant.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Cedar Crest College in 2010. I began my nursing career in the Emergency Department at Geisinger in Wilkes-Barre. I then began Home Health Nursing in which I specialized in pediatric nursing. After a few years, I began working at a school and really enjoyed that atmosphere.
On a personal note, I’ve been married for 32 years and am the proud mother of 2 boys. We enjoy spending time at the beach, bike riding, hiking and running.
