East Penn School District utilizes the program Ready Classroom. This math program provides direct instruction, practice of skills, fact fluency, remediation, enrichment, and acceleration. Students will enjoy math time while exploring math in so many different ways through direct teacher-led instruction, technology, and small group instruction. We believe that not all students learn all skills at the same time or pace. We differentiate instruction in order for the student to be sufficiently challenged and remediate when necessary. Students will also be taught multiple strategies for the same skills. Problem solving using different methods is stressed in each lesson.
Fact fluency is a key building block for success in math, helping students solve problems more efficiently and with greater confidence. Reflex is an engaging, research-based program that supports the development of math fact fluency through individualized practice and instant feedback. By using Reflex regularly, students build automaticity in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts—freeing up cognitive resources for higher-level math thinking.
Some Key Concepts Taught:
Addition and Subtraction – one, two, and three digits
Place Value and Money
Graphing
Beginning Multiplication concepts through Arrays
Time and Measurement
Geometry – 2D and 3D shapes
Fraction concepts
To help build student learning, we also will be using iReady which is an online program that correlates with the ReadyMath curriculum. Students suggested time on is 40 minutes a week. Most weeks, students will meet this time, during the school day. During shortened weeks, please have your child login at home to reach those 40 minutes.
