What will we learn to do in Span 4 this year?
Well, this course moves at a slower pace than level 3. This means that as we slow down, we can delve more deeply into a concept as we add Spanish 4 detail and flair. Practice makes better! In the target language as much as possible each day, you will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Expect frequent discussion and journal writing topics related to vocab themes and your own personal experiences. Some vocab themes will be an expansion of what we've already learned (travel) and some are brand new (around the city). We will always connect new vocab to what we know already. As for grammar, we will do an in-depth review of preterite v. imperfect. Get your baby pictures ready :) Also, we will review subjunctive and add many new uses beyond what we learned in Span 3. Finally, we learn the "perfect" compound verb tenses and the uses of por v. para. You'll be ready for Español 5 in no time!
IMPORTANT! BE COMFORTABLE USING SCHOOLOGY! CHECK UPDATES DAILY! ALL WORK WILL BE POSTED/ACCESSIBLE THERE UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
MOST IMPORTANT: Study a little each day (un poco cada día). Do not wait until the last minute. Be responsible. If what we do in class is not enough for you, you must do extra work outside of class.
Make Spanish / visual flashcards. No English whenever possible on these. Use pictures to give your brain a visual instead of a memorized translation. Organize vocab by theme. Look for connections to other "old" words. Learn cognates. Review vocab regularly! It helps!
Practice with a friend or family member.
Pronounce your words aloud. Practice! How do you sound speaking Spanish? It's time to put emphasis on how you sound when you speak! Do you dare record yourself? :) Make "sounding more natural" a goal for the year.
Remember to use "the detail" words: antes de, después de, al lado de, delante de, entre, para, que, con, también, menos que, mayor que, mejor que... because they enhance reading and listening comprehension. They also add detail and interest to your writing.
Be sure to ask me questions in class.
