This section is meant as a resource for students and parents that wish to upgrade their instrument and accessories. Please note that no student will be denied the opportunity to perform with the EYHS band program because of the quality of their instrument. It is important that all students understand that proper care and maintenance of instruments is crucial to their function, not matter what the quality may be.
If you have the opportunity it is suggested that you try out different instruments to get an idea of how well the instrument works for you. What may be a good instrument for one player may not work well for another.
Double reeds can be incredibly fragile and frustrating, but are very important for your performance. There are several articles on reeds found in the bassoon and oboe article category of the Google classroom.

When assembling and taking your instrument apart, be careful of the bridge keys between the upper and lower joints. Use the swab to carefully clean the upper and lower joints, and bell. Be sure to carefully wipe any water from the cork at the joints. Blow any excess water out of the reed, pull a pipe cleaner through the reed starting from the cork end (never in reverse), and place it in the reed case. For wooden instruments extra precautions must be taken to avoid cracking, don't let the instrument get too warm and make sure there is not opportunity for water to drip or sit on the wood.
