Students’ Responsibility Regarding Personal & District ~ Approved Technology Resources (As noted within the 2020-2021 and DUSD Student/Parent Handbook):
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): Mountain View School is pleased to offer students 1:1 use of chrome books beginning the school year, 2020-2021. Therefore, “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) will no longer be utilized to enhance student learning. Each student will have access to technology that is district-provided in all classes throughout the entire school day. While using district technology resources on school property, each student must act in an appropriate manner consistent with school, district, and legal guidelines. It is the joint responsibility of school personnel and the parent or guardian of each student to educate the student about his/her responsibilities and to establish expectations when using technology.
- Students who bring their own electronic device to school must turn off their electronic devices upon arriving on campus and place it in their backpacks, not their pockets. It must remain off and in their backpacks for the entire school day. For security and safety reasons, clearly label your child’s device if they bring it to school for use before and after school, and off campus.
- Mountain View School reserves the right to limit use of any and all electronic devices, especially when these devices are used to harass others, disrupt the learning environment, or cheat. Students are expected to abide by school and classroom rules regarding appropriate times for use of any electronic devices. Use of personal electronic devices during the school day, any personal electronic device that is visible outside of the student’s backpack, or inappropriate use of any electronic device - personal or district-provided, may result in the electronic device being confiscated, given to the office, and returned to parents at the end of the school day.
Cell Phones: Cell phones are to be turned off and placed in the student’s backpack as soon as the student arrives on campus and for the duration the student remains on campus. Personal calls, texts, emails, etc. will not be permitted at any time during the school day. Failure to follow the school policy will result in the following steps being taken:
- First Offense - The school’s front office is contacted for the cell phone to be taken for the remainder of the day. The student may pick up in the front office before leaving campus at the end of the school day.
- Second Offense - The school’s front office is contacted for the cell phone to be taken for the remainder of the day. The student’s parents must come to the office to pick up the cell phone.
- Third Offense - Student will receive a formal referral.
Telephones: Teachers may give permission for students to use the classroom phones. Telephone messages will be delivered from parents/guardians only. Parents are encouraged to call only in an emergency. Cell phones may not be used during class time.
