(As noted within the 2020-2021 Middle School Handbook and 2020-2021 DUSD Parent/Student Handbook):
Grading Scale:
A 90%
B 80%
C 70%
D 60%
F below 60%
Classwork/Homework: Classwork assignments are expected to be completed to the best of the student’s ability and turned in on time. It is the student’s responsibility to get missed assignments for the times they are absent. Any of your classes could have homework due to incomplete classwork or assigned homework for the night. Designated homework time for each grade-level should be no more than 45 minutes maximum nightly.
Missing work: If any student has missing work the following steps can be implemented:
Late work: Points will not be deducted for late work, instead it will be annotated in the notes field in the grade book and noted on the Report Card when needed. However, after the time frame specified in the Middle School Handbook, late work will not be accepted and the grade will be permanently recorded as a 0.
Assessment:
Assessments in Dysart count for either 60% or 80% of the total class grade in a course. Assessments may include: multiple choice tests, benchmark assessments, quizzes, writing assignments, projects, labs or any rubric based assignment.
Multiple Opportunities to Show Proficiency
Students will have one additional opportunity available to show proficiency on given standards on summative assessments. In place of our previous retake policy, we will now be providing students with multiple opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of grade level standards on formative or quick check assessments. Multiple opportunities are needed so the teacher has clear evidence to determine if the student is proficient in the standard(s). Teachers may choose a different methods to collect evidence of proficiency than was used for the first attempt. Additional evidence of proficiency will override the original grade.
Prior to collecting additional evidence of proficiency, a minimum of one of the following must occur: reteaching, intervention via small group, video instruction and/ or practice at home, tutoring, etc.
Elimination of Non-Research Based Practices
The following will not be factored into grades: Extra Credit, Curving and/ or Group Grades. In addition, grades will not reflect behaviors, instead this will be annotated in the notes field.
