DAEMUN V
Adapting to a Rapidly Changing World
OFFLINE CONFERENCE
January 13th, 2024
*All delegates will receive certificates of participation and additional certificates for awards*
Honorable delegates, esteemed chairs, student officers, faculty advisors, and distinguished guests,
My name is Aaron Lee, a junior at Dwight School Seoul, and it is my utmost privilege and honor to welcome you to the fifth rendition of DAEMUN as the Secretary-General.
For better, or for worse, a great change is rippling through the world. Technology is advancing, human thought is advancing, and people are being brought out of poverty at the fastest rate in human history. However all this change, all of these advancements are a double edged sword. Weapons of mass destruction. Conflict. Disease. Environmental destruction. The scale and severity of these things have been amplified by our own innovation.
The United Nations was originally founded to foster international cooperation against issues which threaten every single one of us on this planet. Now, in this time of constant influx, it is the role of the UN to ensure that this double edged sword is headed towards a direction not benefitting exclusively one particular party or group, but for the good of humanity.
In DAEMUN V, you will be able to experience a wide range of topics, some current, and some historical. You will be able to emulate the UN’s decision making process, productive discussions, and collaboration with perspectives differing from your own.
DAEMUN is Korean for “Big Door”(대문) and we hope that all of you find this conference to be a door of opportunity. Make lifelong friends. Question, inspire, and learn from each other. Come up with interesting, original, and innovative solutions to world wide problems. I look forward to seeing all of you in January.
Aaron Lee
Secretary-General
