Honorable chairs, esteemed delegates, and distinguished guests,
My name is Mona Boulestreau, a current senior at Seoul Foreign School. It is my utmost honor to serve as the president of ECOSOC alongside my Assistant President Jiho Kwon, and Deputy Assistant President Beverly Kim.
ECOSOC was established as one of the UN’s six main organs through the UN Charter, and continues to exist as a major part of UN operations to this day. Within the current international community, ECOSOC stands for sustainable socioeconomic and environmental progress and development, targeting some of the most urgent, crucial issues to be found in the modern world. With that in mind, thank you all for being able to join us in this conference to be part of such an important committee.
This year’s DAEMUN ECOSOC committee will discuss reinforcing the sustainable graduation support facility (IGRAD) as well as strengthening resilience against socioeconomic consequences of climate change. This year’s DAEMUN theme of “Adapting to a Rapidly Changing World” relates very closely to these issues as the world continues to become increasingly interconnected. We hope that through this conference, you can discuss and come up with solutions on the best ways to adapt to a world in movement.
Resolving global issues begins with communication and understanding. As delegates of ECOSOC, I hope you are ready to share your thoughts and opinions on how we can effectively solve these pressing matters at hand. Raise your placards, give speeches, make amendments and ask POIs. Your words will bring forth a fruitful discussion.
We hope you also make lasting memories in this iteration of the DAEMUN conference! Once again, it is an honor to serve as your chairs.
Best Regards,
Mona Boulestreau
President of ECOSOC
