Our week was great especially that we interviewed leaders within our school for our unit of inquiry. We are still looking at our Wonder Wall questions and tackling them from different angles to get to an answer by the end of the unit. Moreover, we had the odd socks day where we wore different socks to highlight how unique we are a part of the anti-bullying campaign.

This week in Unit of Inquiry we explored the strategies used in decision making. The students used De Bono's thinking hats to solve a problem at a coffee shop. They used the hats also to decide whether having a class pet would be a good idea. We also looked closely at the power of influence and the strategies that leaders have used in the past to influence societies.
Next week, we will be choosing a leader to research. The students will use the lines of inquiry to guide their inquiry. They will learn about the qualities of the leader, what improtant decisions they had made and the consequences of these decisions. As well as discovering how influential their chosen leader is or was.
Central idea: Leaders make decisions that affect the world.
Key Concepts: Form, Perspective, Connection
Lines of inquiry:
Characteristics of leaders
Different processes of decision making
The power of influence
Learner Profile: Principled, inquirers, caring
This week in Math, we learned more about dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. We explored the mathematical thinking that these divisions reduces the number 10 times and numbers move to the right of the place value chart.
Next week, we will review our learning in math so far and make real life connects while we are out at camp.
This week, we started working on our first drafts. We used the features of a fable and the different parts of what makes a fable. We have also worked on peer and self assessment with our fables using a checklist to ensure we have all the relevant parts of our fable included in our writing process.
Next week, we will be looking at starting to edit and complete our second drafts and then plan for our new fable.
This week, we classified plants into flowering and non-flowering plants based on their characteristics and traits. The students enjoyed observing desert plants, pine cones, a fern and a vinca to identify these plants characteristics and we able to accurately classify them as angiosperms or gymnosperms.
Next week, we will investigate the effects of air and environmental factors on plant growth
