Ms. Maria: I grew up in a lively Caribbean-African household and most of my childhood years were spent in 3 countries: Barbados, Nigeria and the UK, growing up with my 4 siblings and occasionally my 8 step- siblings will stay over! So, sometimes it was a very busy and packed home!. Growing up with connections to different and yet very similar cultures has given me a real curiosity about the world and a love of meeting people from different backgrounds. Sharing and listening to their stories has enriched my experiences and influenced me in many different ways.I competed my Bachelors and Post Graduate degrees in the UK (University of Huddersfield & Nottingham University) before moving to Dubai. Where we have lived in since 2010, and, I would not change anything about my experiences here. I really enjoy getting to know the little things that make each child unique, and I’m looking forward to getting to know your child — and you — as we share what will be a really special Grade 5 year.
I grew up in South Africa with my parents and three sisters, where we cherished our time in the swimming pool and playing outdoors. My parents instilled in me a love of travel, and I hold dear the memories we created as a family during our adventures. This passion for exploring new places and meeting people from different cultures continues to shape who I am today, along with my love for the outdoors. I completed my teaching degree at the University of South Africa, and for the past eighteen years, I have called Dubai home, where I live with my husband. I am eager to share my experiences and enthusiasm for learning with your children. I believe that creating a nurturing and engaging environment is essential for fostering a love of learning. I am committed to working together with you to support your child's growth and development throughout this school year.
I grew up in Canada, where I was fortunate to have a wonderful childhood alongside my younger brother and a large, loving extended family. Our home was always lively, filled with the sounds of our beautifully colored canaries, playful hamsters, and loyal dogs. These experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature and the joys of companionship. As a child, I was particularly fascinated by dinosaurs. In Grade 3, I spent countless hours reading books about these magnificent creatures! In my adult life, I have become an avid traveler, having visited over 40 countries and counting. Each destination has enriched my understanding of different cultures and perspectives. I am always eager to add more stamps to my passport and share these experiences with my students. I look forward to sharing my love for learning, exploration, and creativity with my students. Together, we will embark on an exciting journey filled with knowledge and growth.
