We have started unpacking our unit by looking at the different lines of inquiry. We also discussed the central idea and the lines of inquiry together and made a connection to our world. We created our own leadership profiles, focusing on the qualities of an effective leader.

Next week, We will continue identifying key qualities of effective leaders and prepare interview questions to use when interviewing leaders within our school.

This week in Math, we started looking at the place value of numbers and how this impacts what each digit actually represents. We then delved into multi-digit whole numbers up to 10 million and we learned how to express them in different ways including in words, digits and expanded form.

Next week, we will continue exploring multi-digit whole numbers to 10 million, including the importance of the Base 10 number system and multiplication of  multi digit numbers including 2 digits by 2 digits and  4 digit by 2 digits using long multiplication. We will be further developing our mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills along the way.

This week, we extracted fables characteristics by reading four different fables written by Aesop. We also made connections between the morals from different fables and life lessons that we are currently learning. At the end of the day, every day is a school day and is hence another opportunity to learn something new. 

Next week, we will be looking at setting, characters and character traits in Fables and how these elements can be developed.

This week, we described how classification is used to show patterns in natural systems. We learned about the Linnaeus system of classification and used evidence in patterns to share our opinion when categorising a whale as a mammal or a fish.

Next week, we will classify organisms using classification keys (reference materials) using dichotomous keys in graphical and written form.

Literacy

Read for at least 20 minutes per day and please fill out your reading journals/ logs (Every Thursday will be the deadline for submittal). 

Complete the Fable comprehension on seesaw and complete in your homework book.

Math

Can you develop your own number system? What would you call it and how would it work? Design your very own number system and explain fully how it would work. Imagine that you have to present it to a student in Grade 3. You will need to make sure that they understand and can use your number system. Create an interesting and memorable name for your number system.

Unit of Inquiry

Have a chat with a person who you consider to be a leader in your family (can be more than one). Ask them about the characteristics that make them an effective leader, the influence that they have left on you and the steps they take to make a decision. Write the key points in your homework journal. Come ready to share with the class.
