What is Project Aeschylus?
Project Aeschylus (EH•skuh•luhs) is all about leveraging modern technology to tell the stories of Durham’s History in new and engaging ways.
It uses Augmented Reality to tell stories, recreate historic buildings, show pictures and videos, bring murals and artworks around Durham to life, and generally offer users exciting new ways to engage with the artifacts and stories of Durham.
The Bottom Line
Project Aeschylus aims to tell and preserve stories and artifacts from Durham's history, bring art and architecture throughout the city to life through AR experiences, and support and facilitate local business and commerce.
Project Capabilities
Project Aeschylus will serve to provide both standalone events and experiences, and events and experiences created with partner organizations and businesses.

Partnership with Membit
Project Aeschylus is partnered with Membit to bring Durham's history to Augmented Reality. Membit uses what they call “human positioning system” to allow users to view the augmented reality objects, called membits, without the use of a real-world marker.
To use Project Aeschylus, download Membit, create an account, and click on the Project Aeschylus channel. You'll see a list of possible Membits to view- click on the "Start Here" card to play our Tobacco Scavenger Hunt game, go its location, and follow the prompts on screen to start the game!
