Augmented Reality Ghost Hunt to Open to the Public in Durham
Search for Ghosts Around Downtown Durham in the Latest Experience From The Durham Production Company’s Augmented Reality Series, Project Aeschylus.
DURHAM, N.C. (Oct. 20th, 2022)—The Durham Production Company, a local theater and digital media production company, announced today that the latest in their Augmented Reality (AR) series “Project Aeschylus”: Ghost Hunt, free and open to the public in downtown Durham, that will run from Friday, Oct. 21st, through Monday, Oct. 31st.
Anyone can join the free ghost hunt any time during its run by downloading the Membit app on their smart devices, heading downtown, and opening the channel titled “Project Aeschylus”, where they will see a list of AR ghosts to track down. From there, they can simply click on a ghost and follow instructions on-screen to find each one.
The Durham Production Company is telling stories through theater and digital media. Past events have included:
A Project Aeschylus exhibit in collaboration with the Museum of Durham History, which used AR to explore the history of Asian restaurants in Durham
A pop-up scene from 1002 Thaxton Avenue, a cabaret integrating theater, performing arts, and technology to bring an immersive edge to live performance
“Project Aeschylus: Clara Von Faucette”, an AR Tobacco Card Scavenger Hunt, in which participants help a fictional girl from 1800s Durham retrace her steps from a day of errands with her parents to help her find her lost tobacco cards.
“We believe Augmented Reality is the future of storytelling, education and entertainment, but few people know that it’s possible to be a part of these experiences right now.” said Scott Frey, Executive Director of the Durham Production Company. “That’s why we’ve partnered with Membit to create accessible experiences right here in Durham - AR is the future, and everybody deserves to be a part of it.”
Ghost Hunt is the latest in a series of AR experiences by the DPC under Project Aeschylus. While Ghost Hunt is only available for a limited time, “Clara Von Faucette” is still ongoing, and Project Aeschylus continues to work for AR in Durham, with more experiences to come down the line.
