What We're Up To Now
Rooftops and Alleyways: Digital Daydream is a series of educational workshops that teach community members about different aspects of creating and producing immersive experiences.
The workshops culminate in a festival-style production of an immersive experience utilizing the work that was done throughout the workshops, so that participants can see their efforts come to fruition.
Project Aeschylus uses Augmented Reality to tell stories, recreate historic buildings, show pictures and videos, bring murals and artworks around Durham to life, and generally offer users exciting new ways to engage with the artifacts and stories of Durham.
Previous Projects
Rooftops and Alleyways: Community Canvas
On May 18th, 2024 the Durham Production Company hosted the Rooftops and Alleyways "Community Canvas", which projected community-made visual art onto the back of the Addison Building in downtown Durham, with Augmented Reality (AR) experiences in the alleys nearby.
Also, the Bull City Wall Brawl (a Super Smash Brothers Ultimate esports tournament) happened earlier in the day, and the final round was live projected onto the same building!
PAxMoDH
On August 19th, 2022, the Durham Production Company collaborated with the Museum of Durham History to expand their exhibit Dining Out In Durham into Augmented Reality!
Through Project Aeschylus, we brought additional in-depth information into an AR experience that engaged and educated participants about the history and impact of Asian restaurants in Durham.
Key to the Bull City
We created the Key to the Bull City, a 3D model of a Key whose teeth represent the Durham Skyline! On the key you can see the Durham Performing Arts Center, One City Center, the Durham Hotel, the Hill Building, the Durham Centre, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the Lucky Strike Smokestack and Water Tower, the NC Mutual Life Building, and the Brightleaf District Warehouses.
ThaxAve Pop Up
On October 15th, 2021, the Durham Production Company produced our first live performance- Daniel and Elphie, a ThaxAve Popup! The idea behind the pop-up was to perform a section of the Cabaret that demonstrated the combination of theater and other performing arts- in this case, ground acrobatics.
We performed 4 times throughout downtown Durham, NC during the Third Friday Art Walk. This is a highlights video of those performances.
Membit Ghost Hunt
As a pre-cursor to Project Aeschylus, we set up a ghost hunt for our partners in collaboration with Membit, an Augmented Reality app and company. Participants could walk around downtown Durham to find all the ghosts in AR and hear their stories.
We also made this preview video for Membit and the Ghost Hunt.
