Step 5: Three-Tiered Instructional/Intervention Model

(Match Supplemental and Intensive Interventions with the Learning Deficit.)

The Three-Tiered Instructional/Intervention Model begins with a deep dive into Tier 1 Instruction. The resources provided cover literacy and mathematical best practices. You will also find the ECATS MTSS Early Warning System that should guide conversations and problem-solving while provide Tier 1 instruction, supplemental supports, and intensive supports.

In addition to academic supports, social-emotional and behavioral growth are layered on to core curriculum and instruction, with increasingly intensive supports based on students’ needs.

  • Core | All Students 80-85%: Core is the first level of prevention and focuses on instruction, providing a strong foundation.

  • Intervention | Targeted Group of Students 10-15%: Intervention may benefit students who are not making adequate gains from Core alone. Intervention addresses struggling students by matching high-quality intervention to their individual needs.

  • Intensive Intervention | Targeted Group of Students 5%

More intensive interventions may be needed for smaller groups or individual students. The intervention must match the area of need.
