"Apple Picking" - Catherine Van Haute
You know the saying, “you never know what you have until it’s gone”;
When they say, “let's talk about our feelings,” so maybe you can move on.
I miss the family dinners and long car rides,
Having everyone under one roof; that would soon divide.
I was only four when they decided to tell me.
Still I tend to think, why couldn’t they just agree?
That big grin on my rosy cheeks soon started to fade,
Leaving me to ask, “why couldn’t he just have stayed?”
Two houses, two of this, two of that, isn't that great?
So cheer up, you have a new room to decorate!
It’s a whirlpool of emotions, everyday and every night,
But hey, I look outside and the sun is still bright.
The sky is blue, and the sweet pollen scent flows all around;
It’s a beautiful little world we live in, so try not to be down.
I look in the mirror each day, and smile;
The mirror looks back and says, “give it a while”.
So i’ll give it a while, or a year, or three,
And then I’ll finally realize, it’s ok they didn’t agree.
