The Trojan horse was a huge hollow wooden horse built by the Greeks to gain entrance into Troy during the Trojan War.
The Greeks, pretending to desert the war, sailed to the nearby island of Tenedos, leaving behind Sinon, who persuaded the Trojans that the horse was an offering to Athena (the goddess of war). Whether they believed this or they were just curious, the horse was taken inside the city gates. Unbeknown to them, Greek warriors were hiding inside. While the Trojans were sleeping, the Greek warrier snuck out of the Trojan Horse and opened the gates to let the rest of their army into Troy.
Watch this clip from Monty Python, Search for the Holy Grail. This is a humerous view of what this may have looked like... Except for forgetting to hide in the rabbit, and then suggesting to build a large wooden badger. The Wooden Rabbit scene begins at 3:25.
We are going to use Google Expeditions Augmented Reality to learn about the Trojan War. In this activity, we're going to focus on the Trojan Horse which is the first object in this Expedition.
Use 2 fingers to raise the object up on at "pedestal" if you want to bring it to eye level. You can also use 2 fingers to pinch and zoom, or expand your fingers to make the object larger. Walk towards the object. You can even walk into or through the object to get the inside view!
Augmented-reality (AR) tour—Use mobile devices to bring virtual objects into the classroom so students can see and walk around 3D objects as if they were physically in the classroom.
Download these AR MARKERS and place them around the room. Once kids join your Expedition, they'll use the MARKERS to view the objects.
