コイでする

Jano Rahmoun, Grade 10

Watercolour on paper 8 inches by 12 inches

School: DSBN Academy

Teacher: Mrs. Cara Goulding

Principal: Mrs. Lisa Nazar

Artist Statement: This artwork is called コイでする which means Koi fish in Japanese. I chose to translate the title because in the Japanese culture, koi fish take a big part in symbolism and beliefs. They symbolize fortune, luck, and courage. I also chose to make this koi fish orange and white because the two colours symbolize faith, innocence, happiness, healing etc. I used watercolour paints not only to create the water-like effect, but also best display the message of the artwork.

Pencil Crayon on Paper

School: Beamsville District Secondary School

Teacher: Miss Daniela Grossi

Principal: Mr. Matt Wilson

Artist Statement: This piece started off as a digital drawing I had created of my dog Lexi, I then started to think of how difficult it might be to create it using pencil crayons, so I did this art piece to challenge myself and see how realistic I could make it.
