This is the computer curriculum page for Palmer River Elementary School's Grade 2 Computer Program. We complete tasks in chronological order from top to bottom.
Beginning of year presentation

Welcome to Computer Class. This presentation will run you through important safety and classroom  expectations.

This will be a busy class where students will test their logins to the above programs. More advanced training will come in the following weeks.

(1) Lexia Core 5

Built on the science of reading, Lexia® Core5® Reading is a research-proven program that accelerates the development of literacy skills for students of all abilities, helping them make the critical shift from learning to read to reading to learn. 

(1) Freckle

Freckle helps K-4 teachers differentiate instruction and reach every student at their own level across Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science. It includes the entire grade level curriculum in each subject area and comes with practice questions, hints and videos to support learning and allow the student to move ahead.

(6) Google Drive

Google Drive is a cloud based platform for writing in documents, presentations, spreadsheets and drawing. With constant auto save and the ability to share and work collaboratively, Google Drive is one of the most productive tools on the internet. 

In Grade 2 we deliver the most rigorous program possible. We practice using all of the buttons on the editing toolbar via  a crazy letters class. In the next class students will practice inserting images into a document. 

In the final class students will have the opportunity to EARN their Class C Google Driver's License.

Practice the following concepts and then do the driver's test to see if you qualify!

Every week, Scholastic News magazine brings curriculum-connected nonfiction into your class! 

(2) MLA Citation Machine

In this class, students will create MLA style citations as a way of saying thank you to the author for the use of their information.

Students will create a Google Document, find the information needed in a book, and then enter that data into a citation generator. The final product, the MLA citation, is then copy/pasted into the Google Doc. The goal in this activity is five citations in one class.

Computer science is a foundational field that opens doors for all boys and girls.

Step 1

Ask family where your ancestors / family first came from and select a country / region to research.

Step 2

Create a Google Presentation and title it "My Family".

Step 3

Create and title at least six slides.
