Welcome to Computer Class. This presentation will run you through important safety and classroom  expectations.

Every week, Scholastic News magazine brings curriculum-connected nonfiction into your class! 

(2) Star Reading and Star Math

 Star Assessments are computer-adaptive tests (CATs) for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students that measure reading, math, and early literacy skills. Testing is conducted in the Fall, Winter, and Spring to determine the academic needs of our students and also measure the academic growth of our student population.

(1) Lexia Core 5

Built on the science of reading, Lexia® Core5® Reading is a research-proven program that accelerates the development of literacy skills for students of all abilities, helping them make the critical shift from learning to read to reading to learn. 

(1) Freckle

Freckle helps K-4 teachers differentiate instruction and reach every student at their own level across Math. It includes the entire grade level curriculum in each subject area and comes with practice questions, hints and videos to support learning and allow the student to move ahead.

Students will be introduced to Google Drive. Logging in, creating a document, titling and saving. As part of this intro students will create five products. 

This year we want students in Grade 1 becoming comfortable with loggining in, creating, editing and logging out. To achieve this, we will log in as often as we can and create and edit as much as we can.

Students will create a diary or personal journal. Each week they will date their journal and write a minimum of two lines.

Google Drivers Permit

(1 class)

Students will complete some basic Google Drive training and will exhibit the following skillsets:

On completion of this activity, you will make your own "Google Drivers Permit" which will set you up for the "Google Drivers License Class A, B and C" in Grades 2, 3 and 4.

Help children learn to read with our free, award-winning reading and phonics game.

This program includes letter sounds, letter blends and sight words. The latest updates also include Reading for Fun and Number Skills!

XtraMath is a free web program that teaches addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts which are critical to success in mathematics.

Practice typing Google Drive usernames using a Google Form.

(1) Brainpop Jr. 

BrainPOP® creates animated, curricular content that engages students, supports educators, and bolsters achievement. 

(2) Keyboarding Skills

Students will type with all fingers using this web based program. They start in the classroom and can then practice more at home.

(8) American National Symbols Webquest 

Dighton Rehoboth Regional School District , Massachusetts 

INTRODUCTION

In this project we will create a Google Document and research as many national symbols as we can.

If we work hard enough with our facts, we might be able to add pictures!

PROCEDURE

Step 1

Create a New Google Document.

Step 2

Title it "National Symbols".

Step 3

Create four headings; Our Flag, The Statue of Liberty, The Bald Eagle and The White House.

Step 4

Write as many facts about each national symbol as you can and include a picture of each.

(1) Math Common Core Clickers

Students will review Grade 1 Math Common Core questions using an Interwrite Personal Response System (PRS). Each student will enter their answers into a computer using an infrared remote control. The computer then displays the results (including the correct answer) in a bar chart on the big screen. 

Interland: Be Internet Awesome

Interland is an adventure-packed online game that makes learning about digital safety and citizenship interactive and fun. Here, kids will help their fellow Internauts combat badly behaved hackers, phishers, oversharers, and bullies by practicing the skills they need to be good digital citizens.  In the game, players explore four floating islands: Kind Kingdom, Reality River, Mindful Mountain, and Tower of Treasure.  Each island features a different mini game with a different Internet lesson.

In this activity, you will learn how to create a slideshow whilst writing facts and inserting images of yourself.

This activity will be pushed out through Google Classroom and completed in class.

(3) Into The Cloud Online Safety 

Into the Cloud™ is an online safety presentation for children ages 10 and under. Using data from actual CyberTipline reports, each episode of season 1 focuses on a different element of online safety, from strategies for handling cyberbullying to recognizing and reporting unsafe/inappropriate interactions and content.
