Writing my personal essay was one of the most meaningful parts of this process. At first, it felt challenging to capture something so personal—my identity—in just a few words. But by drafting, revising, and being honest, I found my voice. Each version brought me closer to understanding not just what I wanted to say, but why it mattered.
I chose to write about my name and the moments I felt the need to change it to fit in. What started as small, everyday experiences, like ordering at Starbucks, revealed something deeper about identity, confidence, and belonging. Reflecting on these moments helped me recognize how much I had grown and how I’ve learned to embrace who I am without hesitation.
Looking back, this essay was more than just a piece of writing—it was a moment of clarity. It showed me the importance of owning my story, speaking up, and standing confidently in my identity.
After I graduate from high school, I plan to attend North Carolina A&T State University or Spelman College to major in Political Science while preparing for a career in orthodontics.
My goal is to become an orthodontist who makes a meaningful difference to someone people can trust to help them feel confident and cared for. I want to use my education not only to excel in my field but also to better understand the systems that impact access to healthcare.
I’ve seen how important access to quality care is, especially for those who may not always have the resources they need. That’s why I hope to give back to my community and serve those who need it most.
Orthodontics is more than a career for me; it’s a way to uplift others, build confidence, and make a lasting impact.
