(MS)2 is an educational outreach program that advances diversity in the STEM fields by developing the competencies and self-confidence of outstanding high school students of color specifically African Americans, Latin X Americans, and Native Americans. The three-summer, residential program challenges students intellectually and exposes them to peers and educators with diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and aspirations.
Every summer at the program I completed four accelerated classes six days a week. Each class required an entry exam, daily classwork, homework, study hall, a midterm, and a final exam. Being hundreds of miles away from my family was unusual for me but this program was a true blessing to my high school career. This program, although rigorous, prepared me to comfortably transition back to in-person learning at the high school level. I enjoyed many things about this program such as cultural sharing, meeting new people, and the different experiences they exposed us to. Cultural sharing is a student led performance, in which each cultural group gets a chance to display a part of its perspective culture. MS Squared also allowed me to meet some lifelong friends that I still keep in touch with today. Lastly, being a part of this program I got to connect with an extensive set of alumi and tour many different schools within Massachuesetts and surrounding areas.
