This is the project introduction flyer, which has the main question on it.
This shows what were supposed to do/learn in this project.
This is all of the rules for the projects.
At first I used the Ps4 controller as my inspiration since is was the only controller I was familiar with (other than the Wii). But then I started to look into other design and chose a Super Nintendo controller for my inspiration because I liked the concept of a "flat" controller.
I made these design to try different ways to change the style of the Ps4 controller. By moving the placement of buttons and joysticks and changing the shape.
This is my first draft drawing being inspired by the Super Nintendo controller but making a bow shape instead and moving the joysticks and buttons in different placements.
For my prototype I used tape and cardboard. I didn't have many problems while making it. For my final prototype I would use hot glue instead of tape and I might change the placements of my joysticks and buttons.
For my final prototype I moved my joysticks to the top and other buttons to the bottom. I also used hot glue instead of tape to have better presentation. Lastly, I painted the body of the controller black. I was planning to paint my buttons as well but I didn't have the p colors of paint I needed. I didn't get to add the electronics to my controller because I had difficulty setting it up to be able to fit in controller and getting the code to work.
My controller is a flat board controller. It has buttons and two joysticks on the top. It also has curved handles on the back. In the beginning of the process I drafted to do a controller inspired in the shape of an Xbox/PlayStation controller but, after thinking over it I decided to do a flat controller. Since, I looked at the simpleness of it and just rathered to do a flat controller. I haven't completed the electronics for my project or figured out how to get the electronics to work. My peers gave me the feedback to move the joysticks upward since the thumbs usually rise in the position you would hold my controller. Also, someone suggested that I make the controller smaller since I don't have that many buttons and I have a lot of empty space. I am going to make my controller smaller and move the placement of the joysticks and buttons to enhance my design. I
With this project I gained better knowledge on controllers because I am not a big game player so I hardly knew anything about them. In the beginning I changed my entire model and then I changed the placement of my buttons and joysticks. My biggest success was finishing and painting my model. My biggest challenge was the electronics, I couldn’t get them to work with the code and I couldn’t figure out how to get them to fit in my controller. My design used unity. It is shown in the front of the controller where my buttons and joysticks are. One change I would make to my project would be actually wiring it and having it work. If I could make changes to the project it would be adding more time and being in person to better understand and complete the electronic part.
