In visual arts we completed a college level art activity of making our very own hard cover sketchbooks by carefully following instructions and making progress day by day. once we finished the crafting of the sketch book we were tasked with making our own presentation on how we did it along with entering our first sketch in our sketchbook.
For my Art piece I chose to do a Harlem renaissance inspired piece where the outfit is inspired by black culture both feminine and masculine aspects included in the outfit.
For my Art piece I chose Malcolm X as my subject, the reason why I chose Malcolm is because I highly respect his ideals and the way he leads through his teachings and discipline. He was a great leader and addition to the civil rights movement even though some portrayed him as pro “violent” even though he meant this as a last resort.
For my BHM month art I choose a hidden figure, a music artist who goes by the name of Teezo TouchDown who is an alternative african american artist who covers the genres of Alt rap, Rock and many other sounds in his music creating a totally diverse and different unique sound for his discography
His music has done a great impact on the black community by always spreading positive lyrics throughout his music with memos such as encouraging all dreams despite how old or good you are at the time believing that nothing is impossible.I believe he is a superstar of our time and a great figure to all black alternative creatives in the community making history for himself and other creatives alike.
My holiday card is mostly blue and white with a Christmas tree and a cute white rabbit in winter wear on the front. This is an original character I made a bit ago. His name is Usagi and I showed him celebrating his favorite winter holiday, which is Christmas. I did this digitally after initially sketching it out in my sketchbook.
What inspired me to make this piece was my love for the colder seasons and inspiration from companies like Sanrio for my own character. I chose to center my sketches around usagi and his friends because they’re a cute simple way to show togetherness during the holidays. I didn’t really have trouble making this piece besides the coloring here and there since I wanted to go with a lineless look. I ended up doing a shade slightly darker than the filled color for the line art.I think I did the composition of the piece well but I think the background of the card is a bit too simple. I learned more about composition and action in a piece with characters and a background throughout my sketches.
I decided when I got this assignment I wanted to do numerous hair styles scattered across the page over lapping each other almost. I wanted to do this to portray the versatility of hairstyles and the diversity of hair light and dark curly and straight.I started off by drawing a character known for her iconic long blue braids(I did not have color however.) jinx from arcane/league of legends in my own style. After that I decided to do random hair styles based on things I’ve seen on Pinterest and complete random hairstyles I made myself(Also taking inspiration from anime and video games I’ve seen). the piece is filled with multiple different hairstyles straight and curly spiky and short. I wanted to play around with lighter and dark value along the hair and utilize my knowledge of line and texture for the streaks and strands. I think I did that well. I am happy with how this came out because I feel that I’ve met my personal goal and the assignment goal. However I probably could’ve done better with my line weight. I had trouble with that. Having lighter line art is probably something I’ve learned for next time. I choose this topic because hair and hairstyles are very present in the media I indulge in like video games and anime/cartoons and I like to draw the styles myself.
For each pose/model I wanted to convey one or two of the elements listed through the pose action props and clothing of the models. Each one represents a different element and all of the elements (besides color) have been shown through each model I drawn I even mixed all the elements together throughout my last piece(the solo drawing). The idea I went with was to embody the elements into each model I drew so some models have heavy implants of shape some have props that show form.I wanted to get creative throughout the process and leave the focus point to the actions clothing and props the models held/wore rather then going in debt on the faces.evidently I used helpful dynamic references poses from Pinterest to help me demonstrate my vision.
