In geometry I applied transformations by designing a video game with 3 levels. After designing my video game, I turned the video game into an animation. The goal of my game was to collect all the needs of a plant and grow a blossom tree. In order to complete my game, translations, rotations, reflections, and dilations had to be used. It was important throughout the process that we remembered the differences for each transformation. Rotation rotates the shape over an axis. Reflection reflects the shape over an axis and or a line of symmetry. Translation is a movement from left right up and down. Dilation is an enlargement of the shape or a decreasing of the shape size.
In Geometry, we have been learning about parallelograms and the properties of different types of them. There are 5 properties opposite sides are parallel, opposite sides are congruent, opposite angles are congruent, consecutive angles are supplementary, & diagonals bisect each other. We are paired up to make a stained glass design using different accurate parallelograms to create an image. Above is the final product as well as some Measurements for different shapes included and how the elements of design & art are incorporated.
In this activity we found the circumference & diameter of our cookie to then split into halves, then 2 unequal parts on each half. After doing this we calculated the area of the whole cookie to use the formula and find the sector area. We also used a protractor to find the angles of each cookie. It was a fun and interactive way to understand the concept of sector area and arc lengths.
In Geometry, we were tasked to survey at least 60 people on a topic that had to do with a social issue that affects the world around us. We have been learning about two-way frequency tables and how to calculate and answer different types of questions regarding them. In this presentation, we used our data to create our own two frequency tables and questions to go along to present to our classmates. Our survey ask what age do students believe children should be informed about sex ed.
We hae been learning about 3D shapes and how o calculate volume for these shapes. For this project we designed our own water bottles using at least 2 3D shapes to meet the required volume needed (30.5in). I made a coconut water bottle and used the shapes cone and hemisphere. I had to calculate and distribute my volume between the two shapes to complete this project successfully.
