In class we have been reading "The Immortal Life of Henriatta Lacks". We were tasked with creating a one pager to demonstrate both our understanding and what we believe were key moments in the book that helped to show the recognition of Henrietta Lacks humanity. We were required to use a quote by Ellie Weisel , " “We must not see any person as an abstraction. Instead, we must see in every person a universe with its own secrets, with its own treasures, with its own sources of anguish, and with some measure of triumph". This quote explains the fundamental principle of seeing someone for who they are, their humanity.  I used different images and symbols to represent that and surrounded the quote as required with them in my own interpretation. 

Over the past few weeks in ELA class we have been researching both the limitations and advantages of AI. We have listened to experts on AI input on how it impacts society and from all of our work we have developed a presentation. My classes presentation focuses on not just the advantages of AI like the other class but also limitations. We don't have a difinitive standpoint we believe it can be used wisely but has its disadvantages. My part in the project was to come up with claims and thesis to put on the slides. I was in the writing group. 

In this project we chose a song to analyze for literature. We were challenged with the question can songs be literature and according to most of our songs they can be with the literary devices and deeper meanings songs have. We created a thesis for our song and claims supporting why our song was the greatest of all time with the literary devices it had in it and meaning. 

This is our first essay in AP Language. In class we read Learning to Read and Write by Fredrick Douglass and Learning to Read by Malcolm X. We were tasked with comparing the 2 and in our essay proving there validity or if one was more valid than the other. In my essay I did both. In class we are preparing for end of year AP test so we learned strategies such as the structure of an essay, making sure we had a thesis, and evidence from the text with reasoning to explain why its relevant. Making sure we have a thesis is important so the reader knows what we are arguing and using evidence and reasoning helps the reader to know that we understand what were talking about and the reason behind making that specific thesis.

Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and author of the Night trilogy, writes in his book, The Nazi Doctors and the Nuremberg Code, “We must not see any person as an abstraction. Write an essay that argues your position on the extent to which Wiesel’s claim about humanity is valid.

This was our midterm for the end of first semester. I did really well in this essay so our teacher advised us to write it up. 

In class we read the book The Crucible. We wrote our first rhetorical analysis essay based off an excerpt that explains why the author Arthur Miller decided to write it. Above is my essay and to the left is the analysis after writing the essay.
