To volunteer means to willingly give your time and effort to help others or support a cause without expecting payment. Drew might require you to volunteer for 100 hours during high school to encourage community involvement, build empathy, and help you develop real-world skills like leadership, communication, and responsibility. It also prepares you to be an active, service-minded citizen and can strengthen college and job applications.
122 Current Hours Of Community Service
In the summer of 2025, I traveled to the mountains of Cusco, Peru with the Spanish National Honor Society and some of my closest friends for a community service trip that pushed me both physically and mentally. While we were there, we volunteered at an all girls academy and helped lay the foundation for a new building that would support future students. Our work included moving heavy boulders to build a retention wall, pulling weeds and landscaping the land, and carrying wood and materials across the site. The work was challenging, especially at the high altitude, but it taught me the value of hard work, teamwork, and serving something bigger than myself. That experience opened my perspective and showed me how impactful even small acts of service can be when people come together with a purpose.
