For the Engage project, I reviewed my basic understanding of functions while exploring real-world situations through different tasks. I watched three videos and reflected on what I already knew, what I learned, and what I wondered. In the second assignment, I explored modeling sea level rise in coastal Georgia using real tidal data from Fort Pulaski in Savannah, GA. I used regression analysis to compare actual and predicted sea levels. I also watched another video and did the same reflection. Finally, I analyzed a graph showing hourly sea level data from April 9–10, 2024, and described what I noticed from the trends.
For our PBL project, my group, Maddie C., Ava D., Nyles D., and I created a short film that showed how a “monster” can be more than just a creature; it can be a person. Inspired by the movie Tusk, we explored themes like bullying, school shootings, and toxic households. Our film follows a boy who is bullied at school and lives with a verbally abusive mother. We filmed at school and Maddie’s house, creating a shot list and screenplay together. We named the film D-Day to reflect the emotional breaking point the character reaches, with “D” symbolizing both “Death” and a shift from the usual A/B school schedule.
In this assignment, I used, evaluated, and improved a simulation to highlight how humans impact coral reef ecosystems. Then, I proposed and evaluated real-world solutions to help reduce the negative effects of human activity on this ecosystem and its biodiversity.
