1. What have you been taught about in art this year that relates to other classes?
So far this year we have learned about chemistry and history. We have done multiple projects related to these subjects that include both art and chemistry or history. For example, we created an electron mandala that used both electrons and elements from chemistry, art from visual art, and mandalas from Buddhism from world history.
2. What have you done this year so far that demonstrates you understand Principles of Design and Elements of Art?
We drew multiple different principles of design and elements of art to demonstrate our understanding. For example, we recently drew the still life of various vegetables to show our understanding of line, value, proportion, and multiple other elements and principles.
3. How do you experiment with different possibilities in your planning and process and how can you show your process?
I can experiment with different possibilities by using different methods of drawing. I show my process by brainstorming and sketching before I attempt to do the final project.
4. What famous/historic art have you learned about so far?
We learned about mandalas in Buddhism, the resistance, Kehinde Wiley, Berthe Morisot, and Marie Bracquemond.
Our electron mandala incorporated STEAM because it used art and science. From science, we used what we learned to properly count the electrons and the rings around the nucleus for our element. We used art because we had to cut out and draw our mandalas. Finally, we incorporated world history because we included symbols from Buddhism like the lotus flower. The mandala helps us learn new perspectives because it lets us learn about how people use mandalas and how they can be a very helpful tool. I feel like our work was successful because all of our designs work together. If I were a teacher I would definitely make sure I shared all of the correct instructions with my students to make sure I set them up for success.
I think art doesn't have a meaning. Art can and is anything you want. All subjects require some sort of creativity to them. Whether it's brainstorming ideas for projects or helping students remember what they learned in class. Art can be helpful for everyone.
