For this assignment, we had to create our own assignment. I choose to do the Beauty of Everyday. The goal of this assignment is to explore the beauty that lies in everyday moments, objects, and scenery, often overlooked in our daily lives. By focusing on common or mundane subjects, I had the opportunity to practice capturing multiple types of textures, lighting, and composition that all piece together the story.
For this assignment, we recreated a past and present female photographer. We also took portraits, headshots, and modeling of our female students, staff, and family members. My favorite part of this project was recreating taken by Dorothea Lange. She was a female photographer during the Great Depression. I chose her because even though she was living through a terrible time in America, she was able to capture the Great Depression and influence society through her work.
For this project, I chose two concepts, one was about emotions and the other about loneliness. I captured four pictures of people expressing different emotions and edited the color that represents that emotion. For my second concept, loneliness, I had my classmate sit in an empty lunchroom, looking inside her lunchbox. I feel like capturing the big empty space of the cafeteria around her was truly able to show the depth of loneliness I was trying to convey.
