In this project, we were assigned groups to work together on recreating a play from a book we were reading at the time. We were able to change things in the story to fit what we wanted, but it followed a certain narrative, with the same characters and overall plot. The scene we were assigned was a certain fight scene of two important characters in the plot. The first thing we did was write a script and assign characters. We then filmed with a phone, and edited the shots to make it as screen accurate as possible. We then added our own twist with some dramatic music.
I chose this project because it engaged creativity in a way that not many other things can do. It allowed for me to put my own twist on a story that I read, and then allow for other people to see that creativity and enjoy it. It was also fun filming scenes and leaving the realm of reality for a moment. The main thing I learned from this project was how to create something inspired from something else and make it your own.
This project involved creating our own short stories, no real limitations. It began with an outline, where we brainstormed ideas for our story. Mine was a space oriented story which was heavily inspired by the Halo video-game series. After we finished our outlines we did peer review, where our fellow students would read our story and give feedback on how to improve it, before we gave it to our teacher to do the same thing. We then created our final draft which was our completed rendition of the short story.
The main thing I learned from the writing of our short stories was how do indulge your imagination and create something that you like and share it with other people. It also taught me about how much hard work pays off, because the process of writing this story was long and drawn out.
