When I volunteer, I see it as my opportunity to do my part and make my community more livable for its people. I believe everyone should participate in community service and volunteering, as it is a form of payment towards the environment you live in as a citizen of your community. Drew requires you volunteer for 100 hours during your high school career because, as a citizen of Atlanta, Georgia, doing community service is a responsibility of any citizen of Atlanta. You are responsible for the city you live in, and if you do community service in high school, after you graduate, you are entering society as someone who has a sense of responsibility towards their community, which is something we need more of in today's society.
Although I do not have photographic evidence, at the Odyssey Summer Camp, I created care packages for the homeless, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, deodorant, washcloths, etc. From this activity, I earned 5 hours of community service.
During the holiday season, I fed the homeless and provided them with care packages while in the rain, along with several others.
I am a part of the first cohort of the Black Women's Mental Health Institute Fellowship in Alabama. Although I am not an Alabama resident, the opportunity was too golden to pass up. Through the institute, I have earned a certificate for suicide prevention.
