To prepare the rocket for take off we had to use a water bottle, tape, 3 straws, vinegar, and a cork. We taped the straws to the water bottle and make sure it was standing. Then we poured the vinegar into the water bottle up to the halfway point. We made a pouch for the baking soda to put into the bottle.
The Principals of Design that we incorporated into our project were movement and balance. Movement played a part in the experimental aspect of our project. The cork was the only moving part of our project because we weren't successful. Our bottle looked balanced for a quick second but in the end it fell over.
The Elements of Art that were apart of our experiment was shape and space. Shape describes the shape of the bottle and how it would interact with the area around which is space.
We noticed that the water bottle wasn't standing correctly on its own so we added another straw to ensure that the water bottle would stand on its own. When we tested the experiment the water bottle did not take off because the water bottle fell before the baking soda reached the vinegar.
For this assignment me and my partner had to create a pendulum that demonstrated the Conservation of Momentum. We used hot glue, pop sickle sticks, string, and marbles for our materials. We hot glued the pop sickle sticks together to replicate a rectangular prism. Then we hot glued the marbles to the strings and taped them to the pop sickle sticks.
The two Principals of Design in the Newton's Cradle were movement and rhythm. Movement was found in the marbles when we tested the cradle ad rhythm was found only when the all of the marbles moved correctly.
The Elements of Art that were in the Newton's Cradle were lines and space. The line in the projected was represented by the line that the marbles were in. Space was the space that was taken up by the movement of the marbles.
The first time we tested the model it didn't work the way that we wanted it to. They were a little bit shaky and not all of the marbles moved when we tested it. When we made adjustments to the cradle it began to have a more even rhythm and the line that the marbles were in became straighter.
