We started working on a collaboration called "America is..." at the end of the school year. We choose one term to describe what America means to us for this project. We choose three events that correspond to three separate time periods for this term, as well as three events that contradict our word. For example, the phrase "America is Fact" is one of my favorites. With this term, I chose the Chinese Exclusion Act to reflect how, despite being the "land of the free," America was denying entry to a certain group of people. The Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America are one indication that refutes the argument that "America is truth."
