In the film I created, I focused on the current issue today, COVID-19. In this film, it is filled with everything that has been occurring since the first case was discovered. My film consists of our president contradicting himself delivering false information to the press. The film consists of the mayor and the governor disagreeing with one another's opinions giving the incorrect approach to Atlanta, Georgia’s health. This film informs the audience of how serious of an impact this virus has had on the African- American community. This topic specifically tied in with my Social Justice class and the discussion we had in class on this topic. I selected this piece because it stood out the most to me and there was so much I could talk about in this film. This virus has been going on for almost a year now and the importance of informing other people about this virus played an important role to me. Many people believe that this virus is fake and false news and I wanted to deliver facts and information to the media and not just opinions.
When creating the script, I used the layout given. I marked my key focuses in each paragraph before writing. After I had my key focus written down the rest of it was free write. Anything that came to mind, I wrote it down on the script. This worked for me mainly because I type like I'm talking to someone. When I write a letter it doesn’t sound like a letter but it sounds like someone is talking to you if that makes sense? This helped a lot when having to read the script out loud in front of a camera. I focused on the Social Justice class as stated. In this class, we looked at news articles and discussed quotes that stood out to us in the passages. We also focused on certain cities such as Chicago and looked at the hotspots where African-Americans were being impacted by this virus and why they were being impacted specifically. One direct quote that stood out to me in my film is probably the most basic quote ever. “How was life before? “ This quote specifically brought back many memories and times before this virus. How many things we took for granted after being locked away from family for almost a year. All of the time we have all lost together because of this virus.
When creating this film, alot of it was improved. That’s usually how I work best because it’s a little difficult for me to create a layout before creating the film. The ideas usually come to me while I'm in the making of the film. I need to do a little better on creating a script though in the future so my explanations and wording come out more understanding and not as if I'm talking to someone. When it comes to having a rubric or a layout of how the film to be, I didn’t know there was one. For instance I didn’t know the video was supposed to be under 6 minutes. For me it would’ve been difficult to include my entire script/ essay inside of the film and to also include my connection to another class wouldn’t fit in under 6 minutes. So I had to cut out a paragraph or two out of my script. When adding background music to my film it began to become difficult because each background sound I used was around 2 minutes long each and the video had to be screen recorded before including it into my imovie. Each background sound was at different sound levels and it was difficult overall when including the music. When it comes to including the voiceovers, those also became difficult in the end so I had to switch from doing a voice over to just showing my face and talking. Also at one point I didn’t have music because it wouldn’t let me include my music.
Overall I didn’t like my film towards the end but I did like it in the beginning. The film started to feel drugged out towards the end but the film was about a 6/10 in my opinion. I needed opinions of what I should’ve included since I never received feedback when doing the peer feedback. The process had its ups and downs but it was fun to see how the project turned out in the end.
