R is one of the most popular, open-source programming languages used in statistical computing, data science, and data analysis. It consists of a large number of data packages, statistical and graphical methods such as machine learning algorithms and linear regression. It is used in almost every industry, be it finance, healthcare, or manufacturing.
Keeping this in mind, the Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the Department of Economics, organized a 6-Day In-house Skill Development Program on "R-Language" from 21st December 2021 to 28th December 2021 for the final year students of Daulat Ram College. The Department hosted many eminent speakers, namely Dr. G.S. Tuteja (Department of Mathematics, Zakir Hussain College, University of Delhi) and Dr. Satish Verma (Department of Mathematics, SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi).
The workshops aimed at providing hands-on exposure and practical experience for Data Analysis using real-life examples from eminent resource persons. Topics ranging from constructing and working with data objects, ggu plotting, data manipulation, and applications of R to hypothesis testing were covered. From writing commands in R to data management with repeats, sorting, ordering, and lists, data frames, import of external data in various file formats, graphics and plots etc., everything was covered in a step - by - step manner. At the end of the program, students were left with significant knowledge of R - Language and its applications.
All the students found the workshops highly beneficial and looked forward for more such programs in the future.
We organized a three-day workshop on Vedic Mathematics from 18th -21st 2021, under the aegis of IQAC. The resource persons were Dr. Neha Bhatia (the convener), Dr. Jyoti Sharma (the co-convener) & Ms. Rekha Meena from our department.
Day 1: Resource person, Dr. Jyoti Sharma started with the history of Vedic Mathematics and covered the sutra used for calculating addition and subtraction of more than 2 numbers and 6–7-digit numbers.
Day 2: Resource person, Dr. Neha Bhatia highlighted the different sutras helpful in doing multiplication of 2-digit, 3-digit and 4-digit numbers.
Day 3: Resource person, Ms. Rekha Meena explained sutras useful on finding the square, square root of perfect and imperfect numbers and cube and cube root of numbers.
