ACTING THEATRE REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT for placement into survey/overview of theatre class
Prepare and memorize a 30-second monologue
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT for placement into year-long acting class
Prepare and memorize a one-minute monologue performance.
Monologues should come from a full, published play. Stand-alone, film, and internet monologues are not acceptable. Bring a theatrical resume with you when you do your assessment.

We strongly suggest that students read the script of their chosen monologue in its entirety. These scripts are available at your local public libraries, and bookstores.
Students who are in a tech theatre class must prepare a portfilio presentation of their work that answers the following questions. Use these a prompts:
For the students who are new to DSA or new to tech theatre, please email todd_lawrence@dpsnc.net with any technical theatre questions.
1) What area of Technical Theatre are you most interested in?
Design (Set, Light, Costume, Sound, Properties, Projection?), Construction, Costume Creation, Sound editing and live work, Lighting, and electrics.
2) Why are you choosing technical theatre as a pathway, with all the other options at DSA, why Technical Theatre?
3) If you have experience in theatre, what is a technique or experience that you remember? What live production (play, musical, dance, concert, etc) do you remember attending, and what was the theatre tech like for the event?
4) What experience do you have with school, church, or community theatre productions
5) If you have a portfolio of work, make it part of your presentation, it can be in a slide presentation on a laptop or tablet.
The presentation should be 3-5 minutes
When you are showing examples of work in the slide presentation please be clear about the year, production title/or inspiration, and what you are presenting (ex. Lighting plot, ground plan, elevations, concept sketches)
