Reduce Teaching load. Extend the runway for new teachers.
Associate Teachers will operate as a lead teacher for roughly 50% of the day, teaching appropriate grade level standards to diverse students following school-based curriculum expectations. Associate Teachers will spend the additional 50% of the time operating as a teacher resident, participating in learning experiences and activities to support their growth and development. We really want to invest in and keep the candidate for the long haul, and the chance to engage in this is a great way for them to jumpstart their path towards a successful teaching career in Denver Public Schools.
The ideal candidate...
Must have a teaching license (initial or alternative)
Has zero years of previous teaching experience
Has a Bachelor’s degree only
Has the right mindsets to be successful in DPS, but could probably use some additional training and support to become an effective classroom teacher during their first year.
OR
Has a ton of potential and will likely be successful wherever they teach, and is open to taking a slightly reduced salary in one of our pilot Teaching Academies in exchange for this robust professional growth and development opportunity.
AND/OR
Is a great fit for one of the Teaching Academies.
Counsel students to encourage and support student achievement.
Monitor, supervise, coordinate and enforce rule of conduct and behavior assigned students; and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
Observe, evaluate, report and record students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Present subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
Establish and communicate clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
Prepare, administer, assign and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
Prepare student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
Communicate with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems; and coordinate instructional efforts.
Participate in designated learning experiences designed to support professional growth, including, but not limited to classroom observations, co-teaching, collaborative planning, data analysis, and online coursework
Operate as a learner committed to increasing effectiveness as an instructional leader in the classroom
Participate in cohort learning experiences throughout the year
Partner with mentor and/or instructional coach to ensure professional development throughout the year
This is a one-year, DCTA-classified position with full benefits and school-based incentives. The year will count as one year toward non-probationary status if teacher receives a rating of "Effective" or higher on the end of year LEAP evaluation. The teacher will be placed on the appropriate step and lane on the salary scale if able to secure a lead teaching position upon completion of the Associate Teacher role.
